Among many others, Premdeep Foundation is mostly involved in solving the six most relevant issues in rural communities, which include: Water Management, Agriculture Development, Environment, Local Culture Promotion, Skill Development and Sustainability. These programmes are supported by a skilled research team that engages in participatory research, impact assessment and interactive dialogues to determine informed actions to achieve sustainable results.
1. Water Management :
To address the critical need for water security in India, Premdeep Foundation’s water programme focuses on collection, storage and access to safe drinking water and returning it to the ground. This includes rejuvenating traditional rural practices, such as rainwater harvesting systems to capture water from rooftops and building a number of smaller storage structures like check dams, wells, ponds, etc
2. Agricultural Development:
Premdeep Foundation seeks to improve rural prosperity by training small holder farmers on scientific farming practices and new technologies that increase crop yields, conserve water and reduce agricultural risks. The interventions focused on equalization of soil nutrients, use of water-saving irrigation techniques, promotion of clean energy, appropriate mechanization, horticulture development, livestock management, reduction of drudgery, and use of Information and Communication Technology in agriculture.
3. Environment:
The NGO addresses the need of the era to improve the environment, as the foundation conducts tree plantation activities from time to time along with the promotion of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.
4. Local Culture Promotion:
Local culture presents unique options for local based economic and other development. The local understanding and interpretation of a community’s history reflects past events that are driven in part by the demands, feelings and interests of those in the present situation. This makes it important for community development practitioners to consider the importance of culture in efforts to improve local well-being. Local culture provides a sense of identity for rural communities and residents. This identity facilitates common understandings, traditions and values, which are central to identifying action plans to improve well-being. Culture contributes to the formation of a sense of local identity and solidarity. Keeping these in view, this NGO organizes workshops and seminars from time to time to promote the local culture.
5. Skill Development:
Premdeep Foundation provides capacity building training for skill development in critical unorganized sectors (such as the construction sector, where there are very few opportunities for skill training), and provides pathways for re-skilling and up-skilling workers in these identified sectors, so as to enable them to transition into formal sector employment.
6. Sustainability:
The organisation promotes grassroots democracy and citizen participation, with an emphasis on women’s empowerment. The programme enables village citizen groups and individuals to learn how to access public services and work with government officials in solving local problems, with an emphasis on the participation of at least 50% women in all initiatives.
